2018 Medicare Certification: What You Need to Know!

Tis the season, agents!  No, not the holiday season - it's Medicare Certification time! Most carriers have their certifications available on their portals already. Now's the perfect time to get your certifications done so that you are ready to sell during AEP. Here are a few tips when it comes to certifications:

Why Should I Certify?

Annual certification is required in order to sell (and be compensated for) 2018 Medicare plans. In most cases certification is also required to receive renewals from previous written plans. Finally, you must be certified to order 2018 materials.

Who Must Certify?

All agents must certify every year to be able to offer Medicare Advantage & PDP products as well as collect renewals.

What is AHIP?

This online course is designed to allow participants to obtain core training that can meet the needs of multiple plans for both initial training and annual re-training certifications required to market individual and employer group Medicare Advantage and Part D plans to Medicare beneficiaries. The AHIP is a single source for both Medicare and Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA) training. If you want to take the AHIP course and get the $50 discount off the normal price ($125 instead of $175), make sure you access the AHIP training through the carriers' certification page. Not all carriers require AHIP, but most do.

Which Internet Browser Should I Use?

Each carrier has a different browser that their certifications works well with. Make sure you read which browser is compatible with each carrier. Be sure as you do your carrier certifications that your pop-up blocker is off, some carriers will have training open up in another window (pop-up). If you don't know how to turn off your pop-up blocker, do a Google search for "how to turn off pop-up blockers in [your browser name]".
